The Black Cuilins

The Black Cuillin is a vast mountain range stretching for over 9 miles on one of the most beautiful islands in the world! The Isle of Skye.

The Cuillin have been a famous spot for climbers, scramblers and hill walkers for over 150 years. All come to enjoy the challenges and scenery of the only truly alpine environment in Britain. The remnants of a once great volcano that form a chain of some 36 peaks along a narrow 9 mile ridge. The mountains are rocky peaks rising straight out of the sea with little vegetation above 300 metres. Above this height, exploration involves following discontinuous trails through boulders, screes, slabs and narrow ridges to most peaks.

At base level there are beautifully crafted footpaths that lead into the dramatic corries and in little over an hour the scale of the Cuillins suddenly becomes very apparent. Some peaks can be reached with good paths and steady slopes and others can only be accessed by those with strong nerve and a have rope skills. Saying that, there is something for everyone and all levels and abilities can get to climb a mountain. At Wyld Grace we use professional Mountain Leaders - all trained to the highest of standards to keep you safe and well at all times and truly get the best experience out of your day in the mountains.

This 2 night adventure can be added as a bolt on to our 5 day wellness retreat on Skye, or as a quick stay for someone hoping to bag one of the Black Cuillin Munro's. Generally we will have one Mountain Leader for the group and the munro will be picked in advance. If you have a specific mountain that you are wishing to climb then please contact us to chat about it before the retreat.

Some of the technical ascents will require a ratio of 1:2 and so may be more expensive per person and may depend on someone else roughly the same level wishing to do a similar route.

Otherwise we shall go as a group and the guide will pick the route based on who turns up on the day and the weather forecast. A fantastic opportunity to experience the glory of the Black Cuillins in a safe and supported way. Wether you are an experienced hill walker or a keen adventurer - we shall take good care of you and push you slightly beyond your perceived limits.

The in-house chefs use locally sourced food to keep your senses delighted and tastebuds tingling. Colourful and creative you will be blown away with the culinary delights.

Days out

There are so many days out on Skye that you can't fit it all into one visit. You will want to come back time and time again. The landscapes are other worldly and you will have to prepare to have your mind blown.

Accommodation

The accommodation is stunning and right on the waters edge. Stunning sea views right from your bed! It will be a small and intimate group as space is limited. There is one kingsize room, one double, one triple and one twin. There are only shared bathrooms but two bathrooms for 4 rooms. A beautiful private home with a family feel to it. We shall have exclusive use for the whole of the retreat. It will have a real home from home feel. The rooms are stunning with breath taking views right out of the window. The perfect spot to sit and relax, watch nature and look for eagles.

We have two properties for this retreat and the yoga shala is a 2 min drive away. The properties are close by and a short walk. Numbers permitting we shall all eat together in one house....
